Just back from my first gig outside of anywhere with a Renfrewshire postcode. As set backs go, this trip would have many, but it's still one of the best gigs I've ever done.
Left Paisley at 1pm to get the 2.45 bus to Dundee. There was no trains leaving Paisley because of a fault on the line. So, i gets on a bus. It's cheaper but the clients on buses is of a lower class. Smelly old men indeed. Arriving in Glasgow, i rush to the bus station to find not only was there no 2.45 bus, but the bus prices were different at the station to the website to the tune of £7 difference. So i haggle them down to £3 and got the 3.30pm to Tayside.
Journey was OK. Sat next to a cool auld dude for most of the way and had a discussion about mp3 players before i started listening to the Red House Painters best of. Anyway, on a stop-off in Perth, a drunk passenger punched the driver and had to be arrested. Ha ha. Only on a megabus.
Got to Dundee around 6pm. Sat in Starbucks for a hour, had a latte then set off to find the Union, where tonight's gig was at. Walked about in the town center for about and hour and a half trying to find it, getting strange 'your-not-from-round-here-cause-you've-got-thumbs' kind of looks from the locals. Gave up after i realised my map was wrong and i had walked all the way to the art-school on the other side of town. hmm. Walked back to the Watergate center or whatever it's called and got a taxi to the union. The taxi journey lasted 5 minutes. I had been walking in the completely wrong direction.
After a brief altercation with the door man (i'm a graduate of Paisley Uni, no longer a student, thus problematic when trying to gain access to a strictly student area), i got in and set up camp in the bar i was playing in. Sat with my £1.20 pint and read a book till my friends arrived. Rocked out. Was fairly busy. Some guy said i sounded like Ben Folds. I love Ben Folds. Best Compliment Ever.
Stayed at my dads house. Got woke up by my sister at some ungodly hour. Slept for another hour or so. Came back to Paisley, went to my mates record shop and bought 'Cold Roses' by Ryan Adams and 'To Bring You My Love' by PJ Harvey. Now eating.
